Frequently asked questions

What is canvas?

Canvas, is a very durable canvas that comes in different materials. In our oil paintings, artists use linen canvas. The canvas is stretched over a wedge frame, or(so-called 3D gallery frame) to get a smooth and fine surface. This allows the canvas to absorb the paint well and the painting to adhere well.

You can also develop photographic images on canvas into paintings by printing them on large format printers. After the image is printed, the canvas is stretched on the same solid wedge frames as an oil painting. For printed paintings we use cotton canvas 380 grams/m2. This gives strong vibrant colors that last year after year. The images are highly resistant to UV radiation.

What is Gallery Frame, 3D Gallery Frame or Kilram?

A stretching frame, wedge frame, gallery wood frame, 3D frame or blind frame is a wooden frame used to stretch the canvas. The canvas goes all the way over the edges of the wedge frame and is attached to the back. In this way, the painting is perceived to have a 3D effect as the motif extends over the edges and no visible frames are visible. The tension can then be adjusted with wedges in the corners of the frame. You can order your motifs rolled up without a wedge frame or stretched on a wedge frame. If you choose stretched, the board will be sent ready for hanging.

What are sound-absorbing boards?

Disturbing noise is one of our most common work environment problems. The cause is often poor acoustics that make conversations and other sounds seem like noise. To solve the acoustic problems, we produce sound-absorbing boards. The images are produced on specially adapted fabric for the best sound-absorbing ability, then we cover acoustic boards with our prints. The boards are 40mm deep and without visible frames as the motif goes all the way to the edges. You simply hang the boards on a screw that is in the wall. Behind the painting there are wires that you can hang the painting in.

How do I hang my painting?

The saw-shaped metal hooks supplied should be nailed into the back of the board with the saw shape "downwards"

The paintings are then hung on a nail/screw in the wall.

The plastic wedges included in the package can be hammered into the corners of the back of the board. The reason for this is that the canvas fabric can lose its tension over time and the canvas becomes loose. By carefully driving the wedges into the frame, you tighten the canvas.

Sound-absorbing canvases are equipped with wires on the back to hang them from.

What is the difference with or without frame?

If you do not order a frame and choose a rolled canvas, we will only send the canvas. If you choose a frame, we will stretch the canvas and the painting will be sent ready for hanging. The frame itself is not visible because the motif is curved around the frame and stapled on the back. This gives the painting a 3D effect as part of the design ends up on the frame.
